Interest Groups and Ministries

There are many other groups that guide and promote specific interests and ministries and community outreach.  Read more about their activities under Finding Community.

(This list of committees and teams and their descriptions is being reviewed now (February 20, 2012) and will probably undergo extensive changes in the near future)

Teams

Fellowship Team:  The mission of the Fellowship Team is to organize and promote various social activities and shared meals that help build relationships among members.  See some of the groups that are part of this team at Fellowship.

Finance Team:
Budget Committee:  This group develops the annual operating budget for congregational approval in May and meets throughout the year to manage expenditures and propose budget revisions when needed.  The treasurer is a member ex-officio and three other members serve staggered three-year terms.

Endowment Committee:

Investment Management Committee: Oversees the investments  in stocks and bonds of UUCS.

Information and Communications Team:  The mission of the Information and Communications Team is to develop policies regarding UUCS external and internal communications. External communications includes our web site, public relations news releases to the media, associated organizations and other external entities. Internal communications includes the web site, twice-monthly newsletter, the Order of Service and other internal communications to members and friends of the congregation. (see Communications Guide)

Membership Team:  The mission of the Membership Team is to promote a flourishing congregation by recruiting, informing and retaining dedicated members who are prepared to contribute their time, talents and financial resources.  The responsibilities of the team include organizing the greeter teams, staffing the Visitor Table, planning three membership classes per year, preparing visitor and new member packets, assisting in new member recognition Sundays and maintaining a data base of members' interests.

Operations Team:  The mission of the Operations Team is to monitor, maintain, repair and ensure the safe operation of all physical structures at UUCS.  The operations team, assisted by our custodian, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the church.  The following committees make up this team:  Archives, Aesthetics, Landscape, Library, Building Maintenance, Safety and Building Use.

Religious Exploration Team:  The mission of the Religious Exploration (RE) team is to provide the best in religious education.  Read more about  Religious Exploration at UUCS including the RE Team.

Social Action:  The mission of the Social Action team is to encourage members of the UUCS congregation to engage in social service, social justice and social action efforts consistent with the UU Principles.   See more about the activities of Social Action at UUCS.

Celebrant Anchor Team (CAT): “Creating a welcoming, compassionate spiritual community!” In keeping with our shared ministry, the team plans and helps create Sunday and other special services of the congregation that build community and promote awareness of our Unitarian Universalist ideals as embodied in our Principles and Purposes. Our primary responsibilities are to plan services when the minister is not in the pulpit; support and advise the minister in matters relating to worship services; support Sunday morning speakers including the religious educators who tell our Story for all Ages; train and schedule Celebrants (lay worship leaders); work with the music director to coordinate music; provide logistical support and arrange set-up and use of the sanctuary during these services. CAT meets at 6:00 pm in Hanneman Hall on the last Monday before the first Sunday of every month unless scheduled otherwise (e.g. summer, holidays). For more information about CAT contact the 2012-2013 co-chairs Chris Vogel and Pam Vorachek.

Committees

Nominating Committee:  This committee finds at least one nominee for each open Board position.  Nominations can also be made from the floor during the Annual Meeting, if the members vote to do this, but candidates are encouraged to make themselves known in advance.  The Nominating Committee also maintains a list of members who might step into other leadership positions.

Personnel Committee:  Composed of members of the Board and the minister, who is the supervisor of congregational staff, this subcommittee formulates job descriptions and handles personnel matters related to staff. (see Personnel Manual)
