UUCS Religious EducationRELIGIOUS EDUCATION LINKS Religious Education Groups | Youth Schedule
Our children's religious education program will run concurrently with
our Sunday Service at 10:30 AM, beginning September 17. During this
time, infants and toddlers may play in the nursery while children from
preschool through grade nine will explore and refine their Unitarian
Universalist values and beliefs. Classes may include content about
nature, history, theology and social action. After the winter holidays,
several classes will have the option to learn more about their
development through Our Whole Lives (OWL) Sexuality Education curricula.
YRUU (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists) meetings, for those in grades 9-12, will begin Monday evening, September 18 from 7-9 PM. The youth and their advisors will work together to plan rituals, activities and discussions according to their interests and needs. Below are examples of past offerings in our Children's Religion Education courses. OWL: Our Whole Lives (Human Sexuality Learning) The OWL program was developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association with the congregational churches. It is a very comprehensive sex education program for ages Kindergarten through adulthood. We offer it for all five groups it was designed for. These groups include Kindergarten/1st grade, 4th/5th grades, Junior High (7th, 8th and 9th grades), High School (10th, 11th and 12th grades), and Adults (age 18 and older). This program goes beyond what children learn in school. It looks at values and decision making in greater depth, as well as all aspects of sexuality that are often glossed over or skipped entirely in school settings. Coming of Age Program A Unitarian Universalism Rites of Passage for 8th graders and high school youth who could not participate in prior years. Each of the involved youth is matched up with a mentor and will have a set a tasks to do/choose from, as well as be required to compose a credo (personal belief statement) to share with the congregation. It is a lot of work but past participants have felt it was worth it! Children's Choir The Children's Choir is limited to those who sign up, are willing to work hard, and can come early on several Sundays to practice. Children can commit to one set of practices and one performance at a time.
